Hi, a New Zealand Cakewreck reader here. the blog has a big following down here and has been linked with several very popular Kiwi blogs, and has been mentioned several times by a large National Daily Newspaper. Cakewrecks is one of those blogs which appeals to readers without any international connotations or assumptions. And of course it is just plain funny. I know at least 20 committed readers, and I am sure that some of them are voting. As it is just on Midnight here and we are almost into Wednesday, I am sure that this looks as if there is something odd in the votes cast. It is just a tired Kiwi on her way to bed.

Another wrecker signing up - indignant about the cheating claims!
Rocks clearly can't take that CW is ahead, even when given the offical info that all votes are valid, he's desperate to dig his heels in and state that it can't be right, simply because he doesn't think it should be. Which is interesting, for it's own reasons.
I check Wrecks everyday - it's the only blog I've ever checked daily because I'm worried about missing something good - however I rarely post just because when the posted replied number in the hundreds after just a few hours I know I'd get lost and someone has already said what I would have wanted too ^.^'
Also, I signed up here simply from frustration and amusement - yup, I can hold them in equal measure, I was not "called" to defend anything. Jens blog is awesome and although I understand the concern at first, I do believe it's time to give up the ghost now that there has been no evidence of fraud. I think the reason CW fans are commenting is that now it's been proved, hands are still flying to claim that it can't be right.
Personally I'm not suprised. CW deserves the win, it has so many great and loyal readers, I enjoy reading the posted comments almost as much as I love the blog itself!
Wreck On! undeneath that Peace -x-

Here's what's going on in the best food blog:
CAKE WRECKS IS THE BEST!!
therefore, it is winning
anyone who says otherwise is either jealous of Cake Wrecks' awesomeness or hasn't read it for themselves and experienced its intense magnificence.
so go ahead, complain away. all of the "wreckies" out there know that Cake Wrecks is the winner anyway.

Don't forget to take into account that YOU, rocks, have contributed to the overwhelming response CW has gotten. We all know that any type of promotion/controversy will only make fans that much more dedicated and also have some vote just because. Take American Idol for example. There are sites dedicated to voting for the worst singers just to keep them in. NOT that CW is anything short of fantastic but you get the point. You sealed the deal. We thank you.

Argh! I'm trying to vote for CakeWrecks one last time, but the weblogawards server is overloaded and the site won't load. Argh!
(By the way, I was talking about this whole brouhaha with a couple of friends, who said that they deliberately stayed up late and voted for CakeWrecks after midnight EST a couple of times, just for Rocks's sake! hee hee hee!)

I would agree but I really don't think readers of humor sites are any more engaged the people who follow political sites religiously and those people have gotten very engaged here.
I would think that is a generalization. One can find very engaged people anywhere. Certainly there are areas of politics, in which people are extremely engaged. Perhaps there are areas other than humor or politics in which readers are even more engaged.
I know the admins appreciate rocks alerting them to the possibility of fraud by hackers and I know it must be very frustrating by both sides to be addressed with attacks. I would encourage both rocks and the CakeWreck fans to handle this is a mature and civilized manner.

I don't read blogs. I generally don't care. I've got a business, kids, a husband and all the day to day BS that ammounts to life & limits my opportunity to sit in front of the computer reading other peoples thoughts. I can hardly keep track of my own. Every time I am bored and waiting on who only knows what, I pull out my blackberry and type in www.CakeWrecks.com Yep, that's me in the pediatritian/OBGYN/accountant/grocery line laughing out loud. I'm laughing at Jen and the wonderful part of almost every day which is cake Wrecks. Except Sunday Sweets, which are breathtaking & make me want to go spend hundreds of $ on cake art. Not only do I read it every day, I actually voted for it twice, registered for whatever this forum is and typed this post in the precious few free min I have while my kid is in the tub. Thanks Jen for the daily laugh. I love cake wrecks & have told all my girlfriends about it so I hope they also voted for your amazing blog. Food AND Humor. Perfect combo. XOXO PS John - I'd be "afronted" too

I hate baking (love eating) but am a dedicated Cake Wreck fan! Discovered it completely by accident, when my favorite blog (fuglyhorseoftheday.blogspot.com) happened to mention a horse butt cake that was featured. I was instantly hooked by awesomely bad cakes and witty commentary. I have also had blog excerpts from CW sent to me from non-foodie friends on facebook, which goes to show how popular the blog is. Think I'll go vote again:)

Another Cakewrecks fan here. I was not called to action, I just hate the accusation of cheating being flung around.
Anyone, ANYONE who thinks that "humor blogs" can't POSSIBLY draw in that kind of attention has no idea what the power of humor is. A good sense of humor, one that doesn't rely on being edgy or offensive or "common", one that's witty and carefully constructed (generally...typos and occasional grammar mistakes aside XD), will draw a lot of readers.
Didn't you watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Jessica Rabbit married the little toon because "He made her laugh." A big theme of the movie was how important a sense of humor really is. It's true!

Up until Sunday traffic followed our expectations, but Monday and Tuesday caught us a bit by surprise, with traffic rising to the first day level again. {From the Notes 1/13/09}
...and I can tell you exactly why. CakeWrecks fans conducted a small experiment at the behest of Jen to determine if the supposedly suspicious jump in numbers voting for CW could be duplicated. I believe that answered the question definitively.

Cake Wrecks, like any site, asked their users to vote. And they did. So there's a lot of people reading Cake Wrecks. I didn't vote but I was disappointed to see that they were under "suspicion," since she is such a sweet lady and her blog is so fantastic. There's a reason this won best food blog, it's intelligent and witty and entertaining.
You should all be ashamed of yourselves for being poor sports.

Ok, I am a CW reader but i am not here massively defending it, and rocks i can see that you threw no accusations, but i think you missed something in your pattern analysis
Humour blogs get more recurring traffic than food blogs. In the humour category humour blog followers had to split their votes across various humour blogs, with acouple of favourites, in the food category any people who like humour in their blogs are gonna vote CW, I would like to see the rate of votes for CW as that may be suspicious but bear in mind that CW has worldwide appeal and so could very easily get votes around the clock, I would expecet certain peaks around max traffic times, but they may be small in comparisson to voting numbers.
If the owners of this site would release the rate of vote data so that we could analyse it for our own amusement i would much appreciate it.

Hey guys! I'm new here can someone give me a few tips? 1. How do you get nominated? 2. Is there some sort of prize involved? 3. Who gets to vote on the nominees? P.S. My blog: www.bykids4parents.blogspot.com I'm a 13-year-old blogger that gives parents insider info about what kids are doing and whether it is good for them.
